Maako did something most thought she would never do and that was entering a pageant in 2023, winning her first crown & title as "Ms Aotearoa Ambassador 2023" for MFCNZ.
She set a precident for being the 1st Māori Female to win a crown and title with a Moko Kauae (Traditional Māori chin tattoo) in any pageant in the world.
She carried on and was crowned
"Ms World International NZ 2024". That was an opportunity to compete in Florida USA but was unable to due to her health.
That didn't stop her from being crowned as "Mrs Heritage NZ 2024" giving her the chance again to compete in her 1st international pageant. She bought home the Crown and title as "Environmental Ambassador for Thailand 2024".
